NEW YORK — The federal Environmental Protection Agency and the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection have filed a lawsuit against 17 companies over the alleged mishandling of more than 6 million pounds of hazardous waste at a magnesium waste processing facility in western Pennsylvania.
The 45-acre property in West Pittsburg, Pa., which was owned by now-defunct magnesium recycler Remacor Inc., was the site of a magnesium waste recycling facility producing desulfurization reagent for steel production starting in 1975. ....
