Benson Metal, Simsmetal settle pollution complaint

PITTSBURGH — A water pollution complaint against Benson Metal Corp. of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Simsmetal East LLC over scrap metal that fell into a local waterway has been settled.

Benson has agreed to pay $85,000, which includes a $50,000 civil penalty, $27,000 for natural resource damage and $8,000 in costs, and has taken steps to prevent it from happening in the future, the New York Attorney General’s Office said. ....
