Ellwood furnace boosts vacuum melt capacity

LOS ANGELES Ellwood Group Inc. has commissioned a new vacuum oxygen decarburization (VOD) furnace, boosting vacuum melting capacity at its Ellwood National Steel unit.
The VOD furnace, installed at the Ellwood City, Pa.-based companys facility in Irvine, Pa., will focus on stainless steel ingot but could also produce certain nickel-based alloys "down the road," Michael A. Kamnikar, senior vice president of marketing and business development, told AMM. It augments existing capacity at Ellwood Groups primary melt....
