MONTERREY, Mexico — Ford Motor Co. plans to manufacture its vehicles using ultra-high-strength steels or alternative materials such as carbon fiber by 2020 to reduce vehicle weight and cut fuel consumption.
“In the automotive industry, we’re seeing the use of ultra-high-strength steels such as dual-phase as well as aluminum, carbon fiber and magnesium,” Ford purchasing manager Leonardo Vaquero Negrete told delegates at AMM’s 18th....
