FerroAtlántica halts all S. Africa silicon output

CHICAGO FerroAtlántica Group SA has stopped all silicon production at its facilities in South Africa for April and May, according to a company release.
The move comes after the Madrid-based silicon producer in December announced plans to close two of three furnaces at its Polokwane plant in northeastern South Africa and another at its Rand Carbide facility in response to market conditions and a challenging energy supply situation in the country (amm.com, Dec. 13).....
