US economy faces hurdles but upside ahead: Morici

WASHINGTON — The U.S. economy continues to face a number of major obstacles, from regulatory overreach to a swelling trade deficit with China, but there also exist numerous "reasons for optimism," according to Peter Morici, a professor at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business.

"These continue to be very, very difficult times. I don’t have to tell you that; you deal with it every day. We have been through a terrible recession, and you’ve heard that over and over again from this administration and the last," he told attendees at the Steel Manufacturers Association’s annual members’ conference in Washington.....
