Voestalpine, Ahmsa sign deal for HBI

NEW YORK — Austria’s Voestalpine Group has signed a memorandum of understanding with Mexico’s biggest integrated steelmaker, Altos Hornos de México SAB de CV (Ahmsa), to sell the steelmaker several hundred thousand tonnes of hot-briquetted iron (HBI) annually from its planned HBI and direct-reduced iron (DRI) facility in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Shipments to the Mexican steelmaker are set to begin in early 2016 after Voestalpine completes its proposed €550-million ($711.9-million) facility, Voestalpine said.....
