Aleris to close Saginaw plant by year-end

CHICAGO — Aleris International Inc. plans to close its specification alloy facility in Saginaw, Mich., by the end of 2013, a company spokesman told AMM May 29.

The closure comes as a result of a change in demand from a "nearby customer," the spokesman for the Cleveland-based company said. He declined to name the customer, but the facility was known to have supplied General Motors Co. previously. A spokesman for GM was unable to provide more....
