Steel groups push for infrastructure review

CHICAGO — The steel industry is backing efforts to scrutinize the country’s recent infrastructure failures in order to highlight the need for sufficient investment to stabilize safety and create jobs.

The National Transportation and Safety Board (NTSB) is investigating two bridge failures and two railroad accidents that occurred over the past two weeks.

On May 23, a 160-foot span of the Interstate 5 bridge collapsed into the Skagit River in Mount Vernon, Wash. Witnesses reported that just prior to the collapse, a freight truck with an oversized load struck the overhead truss superstructure, the NTSB said.....
