Sterlite OK’d to restart plant; copper crimp seen lingering

SINGAPORE — India’s National Green Tribunal (NGT) has allowed Sterlite Industries India Ltd. to restart operations at its Tuticorin copper smelter in the country’s south, although market participants expect supply tightness to continue.

"The initial euphoria of Tuticorin restarting (will) abate in India. ... I don’t think they will ramp up (to full production) immediately," a trader in Singapore told AMM sister publication Metal Bulletin. "I think it will be a controlled start and the tightness in the copper market will continue." ....
