Airbus runs new XWB engine in advance of maiden flight

LOS ANGELES — The engines for the new Airbus A350 XWB have taken their first run as the aircraft gears up for its maiden flight this year.

The Rolls-Royce Trent XWB engines, with an 118-inch-diameter fan, had an initial run in the A350 in Toulouse, France, following start-up of the plane’s auxiliary power unit.....
