US steel mill exports fall in April

NEW YORK — U.S. steel exports fell in April on the back of lower shipments of semifinished material and plate in coil.

Steel exports totaled 944,732 tonnes, down 5.3 percent from 997,820 tonnes in March and 10.7 percent below nearly 1.06 million tonnes in April last year, according to data from the Commerce Department’s Import Administration.

In the carbon and alloy sector, major decreases were recorded in April by semifinished material, which dropped 65.6 percent from the previous month and 89.6 percent from a year earlier, as well as plate in coil, which fell 24.6 percent from March and 40.1 percent from April last year. ....
