Mixed bag for metals employment in May

CHICAGO — Employment in metals was mixed last month, with primary metals down as fabricators logged a gain.

Metals producers employed 394,700 workers in May, down 2,200 from a month earlier, while fabricated metals companies saw employment grow by 5,400 to more than 1.43 million people, according to the latest Bureau of Labor Statistics data.

Since May 2012, metals producers have shed 9,700 positions, not seasonally adjusted, while fabricators added 23,900 jobs.....
