Growth in Brazil’s aluminum consumption to slow in 2013

SÃO PAULO — Brazilian aluminum consumption is expected to grow at a slower rate of 3.7 percent in 2013 vs. an earlier estimate of 5 percent due to slower-than-expected economic growth, Brazilian aluminum association Abal said.

Growth in aluminum consumption is closely linked to the country’s macroeconomic performance, and Brazilian gross domestic product in the first quarter increased 0.6 percent quarter on quarter and 1.9 percent year on year. As a result, Brazil’s central bank cut the country’s 2013 GDP growth projection to 2.77 percent from 2.93 percent.....
