CHICAGO — Automakers, auto suppliers and metal companies in six states have announced expansion projects over the past month with a combined value of nearly $158 million.

Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indiana Inc. will hire 90 production workers by the end of July as its Princeton, Ind., assembly plant prepares to build the 2014 Highlander, in addition to hybrid and export models. The company will have hired 446 production workers by the end of the month, nearly 50 more than was planned when the $400-million Highlander expansion was announced 16 months ago. The extra staffing reflects plans to build 50,000 more vehicles per year.....
