NEW YORK — Hickman, Williams & Co. president and chief executive officer William A. Snyder plans to retire Oct. 1. He will be succeeded by David Gelwicks, chief operating officer and vice president.

Snyder began his career with Hickman, Williams as a sales engineer in 1977, rising through the ranks to be appointed president and chief executive officer in 2006. The sales and service company markets a variety of materials, including metallurgical coke and ferroalloys, to producers in the metals sector.

Gelwicks joined Hickman, Williams in 1993 from North Star Steel Co. and was promoted to vice president and named to the board of directors in 2003. He was appointed chief operating officer last November (, Nov. 5) as part of Hickman, Williams’ succession planning, the Oak Brook, Ill.-based company said.

Steven W. Stark will take over as vice president effective July 1.
