PITTSBURGH — E. Schneider & Sons Inc. is working to open a scrap processing operation on a vacant lot in Allentown, Pa.

The Allentown-based scrap processor has selected a 2.53-acre parcel zoned for manufacturing where it intends to refurbish an existing facility. It will be used for training, to house spare parts, record storage and processing for a handful of industrial customers, owner John Schneider said.

It would not be a buying center and not open to the public.

The facility would replace the company’s second location in Allentown, which has been sold. The property is being used for a development project.

A recent hearing before the planning commission has been tentatively scheduled to be continued July 9, according to a town clerk.
