Caterpillar lays off 260 workers

CHICAGO — Caterpillar Inc. laid off some 260 workers June 24 at its South Milwaukee, Wis., mining equipment plant.

The Peoria, Ill.-based manufacturer of agricultural, forestry, construction and mining machinery indicated in March that it would likely have to lay off production employees to bring output in line with demand. Employees were notified of the specific details and timing of the layoffs over the past several weeks.....
