CHICAGO — ArcelorMittal SA unveiled car door solutions June 25 that are 27 percent lighter and significantly cheaper to make without compromising safety and structural requirements.

The weight reductions were achieved using advanced high-strength steel and ultra-high-strength steel and existing processing technology.

The Luxembourg-based steelmaker’s research and development team has also identified additional solutions that will reduce weight by up to 34 percent compared with existing parts in order to meet tailpipe emission regulations taking effect in Europe in 2015 and U.S. tailpipe emissions and....
