Nonferrous scrap exports fall in April

NEW YORK — U.S. nonferrous scrap exports remained depressed in April, falling from both the previous month and a year earlier.

Exports of nonferrous scrap totaled 253,572 short tons, down 12 percent from 288,118 tons in March and 18.8 percent below 312,450 tons in April last year.

The decline was led by another poor showing by aluminum and copper scrap, according to the latest data from the U.S. Commerce Department. Aluminum exports of 145,989 tons in April were down 12.8 percent from 167,334 tons the previous month and 17.9 percent from 177,726 tons a year earlier, while copper shipments of....
