NEW YORK — Legislation that would provide $50 billion to fund U.S. transportation infrastructure projects through private investment has been introduced in the House and the Senate.

The two bills, called the Transportation and Regional Infrastructure Project (TRIP), would leverage $1 billion in bonds for transportation infrastructure in each state over a six-year period. The principal amount of the bonds would be covered by a state match to a trust fund and invested for the life....
