Non-aerospace titanium sags, zircomium in upturn: ATI

LOS ANGELES — Allegheny Technologies Inc. (ATI) is running its titanium sponge operation significantly below capacity, although the company has seen the strongest quarter-on-quarter upturn in its zirconium shipments since the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant disaster more than two years ago.

ATI chairman, president and chief executive officer Richard J. Harshman said during a quarterly earnings call that the Pittsburgh-based specialty metals producer is operating its Rowley, Utah, sponge plant at 60 percent capacity "due to reduced global demand for industrial grade" titanium.....
