Lower prices, shutdown hurts Horsehead

NEW YORK — Horsehead Holding Corp. was in the red in the second quarter due to lower zinc prices and production that was hindered by an unplanned shutdown of a smelting furnace at its Monaca, Pa., facility.

The Pittsburgh-based company posted a net loss of $828,000 for the three months ended June 30, an improvement from a $1.69-million loss in the same period last year but a step back from net income of $2.83 million in the first quarter of 2013, Horsehead’s first profitable period since the end....
