Blood-lead tests spur change in e-Stewards standards

NEW YORK The e-Stewards initiative is changing safety standards for electronic waste recyclers after learning of elevated lead levels in the blood of employees at two certified recycling facilities, the Basel Action Network (BAN) said Aug. 2.
National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) investigators notified BAN of the elevated levels after conducting blood tests on employees at two recycling plants with e-Stewards and Responsible Recycling (R2) Practices certification.....
