Ryerson profits hit by lower sales volumes

CHICAGO — A decline in shipments and prices hurt Ryerson Inc.’s bottom line in the second quarter.

The Chicago-based service center chain posted net income of $1.9 million for the three months ended June 30, down 93.8 percent from $30.6 million in the same period last year. Sales slid 16.8 percent to $906.9 million, reflecting a 6.7-percent decline in shipments to 530,000 tons....
