PITTSBURGH — Upstate Shredding LLC-Ben Weitsman & Son Inc. has opened its metals recycling and export shipping facility in Albany, N.Y.

The Owego, N.Y.-based company has started up its newest location and will hold its grand opening Aug. 10.

"We have hand selected the best employees from thousands of applicants around the country to ensure that we have the most knowledgeable team in the industry in Albany," president Adam Weitsman said. The new location has created 40 full-time jobs.

After signing its lease at the Port of Albany, the company spent $15 million to build out the site (, Dec. 4).

The facility was paved, numerous buildings were constructed and equipment was purchased.

The location expands Upstate Shredding’s footprint to obtain scrap metal in New York, and allows the company to enter the export arena, Weitsman said. "Having direct access to export facilities will greatly hone our competitive edge and allow us to further tap into domestic and worldwide markets," he said.
