Freeport Indonesia to help plan local copper smelter

SINGAPORE PT Freeport Indonesia, which runs the Grasberg copper-gold mine in the West Papua province of Indonesia, plans to support two local companies in preparing plans for a new copper smelter in Indonesia.
The two potential smelter developers, PT Indosmelt and PT Indovasi Mineral Indonesia, were assessing the economic viability of a new smelter, the affiliate of Phoenix-based Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold Inc. said Aug. 13.....
