Rebar fabricators cautiously optimistic

NEW YORK — Despite low rebar selling prices and stiff competition from mill-owned downstream operations, independent rebar fabricators are cautiously optimistic about market conditions in the coming year, according to a poll by the Independent Steel Alliance (ISA), a rebar-buying co-op.

Of the 44 fabricators polled, 34.1 percent held a "bullish" outlook for the rebar market over the next 12 months and 45.5 percent were "neutral," while 21.5 percent were "bearish."

"Even though the market is still tight, it is definitely not getting any worse right now," a California rebar fabricator said in responding to the poll.....
