PITTSBURGH D.H. Griffin Wrecking Co. plans to open a scrapyard in Ridgeway, Va.
The Greensboro, N.C.-based company is seeking to have a vacant 18.4-acre parcel rezoned so it can operate a scrap metal and auto recycling facility employing between eight and 10 workers.
The Henry County Planning Commission has recommended that the request be granted, and the countys board of supervisors was scheduled to consider the application. If the rezoning is approved, it will advance to the Board of Zoning Appeals, where a special-use permit will be considered.
D.H. Griffin, which could not be reached for comment, performs demolition work and operates scrapyards in North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee.
The company, which claims to generate 1 million tons of ferrous scrap a year from its demolition work, also has a presence in Alabama, Florida, Georgia and Texas.
