Beam prices flat, no push for change

LOS ANGELES — Structural steel prices held steady moving into September as neither demand for beams nor raw material prices are seen supporting a change.

"Everything is status quo," a Northeast distributor said. "Nothing has changed in the last two or three months."

Major U.S. structural steel producers issued no price announcements last month, leaving published tags unchanged. In August, AMM dropped its consumer buying price for shredded automotive scrap in the Chicago market by $10 per ton to $366 per ton, and published f.o.b. mill prices on core sizes of wide-flange beams remained flat at $765 per ton (amm.com, Aug. 19).....
