NEW YORK Sims Metal Management Ltd. has received unanimous approval from the Rhode Islands Woonsocket City Council on an application for a second-hand dealers license.
The license is the first step in a process that could lead to a new Sims recycling facility in Woonsocket.
The approval came after executives of the worlds largest metals recycler assured city council members that the yard would only be used to store metals destined for processing at other locations.
"Sims is exploring an opportunity to locate a feeder yard in Woonsocket, with the hearing being one step in the process," a Sims spokesman said Sept. 5 via e-mail.
