PITTSBURGH — A law in Maple Ridge, British Columbia, requiring scrap companies to tag every piece of nonferrous material they take in and hold it for seven days is weighing heavily on two local metals recyclers.

Mike Salo, owner of Maple Ridge-based Fraser Valley Metal Exchange, is facing fines of Canadian $1,200 to C$12,000 ($1,165 to $11,650) for allegedly violating the local tag-and-hold law. He is scheduled to appear in provincial court in British Columbia Nov. 7.....
