Gas crimp, imports hit ArcelorMittal Mexico

MEXICO CITY — ArcelorMittal Mexico SA de CV’s steel output has been affected by a combination of factors, including "critical alerts" on domestic natural gas consumption and unfair trade practices, recently appointed chief executive officer Victor Cairo told AMM sister publication Steel First in an interview.

The unfair trade practices particularly concern slab imports from Russia, Ukraine and Brazil, Cairo said. The steelmaker has the capacity to produce 4 million tonnes per year of slab, "but we are not at that level" because of the unfair imports, he said, without disclosing the current utilization level.....
