USS expects to log $1.8B write-down

NEW YORK U.S. Steel Corp. expects to record a write-down of about $1.8 billion during the third quarter as a result of slow economic growth and global overcapacity, the company said Oct. 18.
The non-cash goodwill impairment charge is related primarily to its North American flat-rolled operations and its Texas tubular operations, the Pittsburgh-based integrated steel producer said.....
