Whirlpool earnings soar on NA sales growth

CHICAGO — Whirlpool Corp. posted record earnings in the third quarter, led by strong growth in North America and increased consumer spending.

The Benton Harbor, Mich.-based manufacturer reported net income of $196 million for the three months ended Sept. 30, more than double net income of $74 million for the same period last year, on sales that rose 4.2 percent....
