Junk battery market in flux as prices diverge

NEW YORK The price range for junk lead-acid batteries has reportedly widened over the past two weeks, with the emergence of new market conditionsincluding strong interest from Mexican buyerscausing sellers to re-examine their options, participants said.
Several market players noted seeing battery prices as low as 32 cents per pound and as high as 40 cents per pound, although most pegged the average price at about 33 to 35 cents per pound vs. 32 cents to 34 cents per pound Oct. 8.....
