SSAB surprises buyers with $20/T plate hike

NEW YORK SSAB Americas looks poised to lead another round of steel plate increases, sparking surprise from buyers, particularly since the market has remained relatively stable, although rather lackluster.
SSAB Americas increased minimum base prices by $20 per ton effective immediately, the Lisle, Ill.-based steelmaker told customers in an Oct. 24 letter. The increase applies to all new orders for non-contract, as-rolled carbon and high-strength low-alloy, normalized plate, alloy plate....
