Metal shipments, new orders fall in Sept.

CHICAGO — Shipments and new orders of primary metals and fabricated metals dipped in September compared with the previous month, according to the latest U.S. Census Bureau data.

Primary metal producers’ shipments totaled nearly $25.68 billion, down 3 percent from August, while new orders slipped 1.9 percent to $25.22 billion. Inventories totaled $35.14 billion at the end of September, up 0.2 percent from a month earlier.....
