Century threatens to shutter Sebree smelter

CHICAGO Century Aluminum Co. will stop all production at its Sebree smelter in Robards, Ky., Jan. 31, 2014, unless it receives a cheaper power rate, according to a Nov. 1 filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
The Chicago-based aluminum producer also said employees at the plant were issued a conditional notice of the potential curtailment under the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act, according to the filing, signed by Century executive vice president and general counsel Jesse E. Gary.....
