Century Aluminum net loss narrows in 3d qtr.

CHICAGO — Century Aluminum Co.’s losses continued in the third quarter, with the aluminum producer blaming the red ink largely on uncertainty about the global economy.

The Chicago-based aluminum producer posted a net loss of $9.5 million for the quarter ended Sept. 30, although that figure narrowed by 20.9 percent from the $12-million net loss in the same 2012 period, as sales jumped 31.3 percent to $399.9 million, according to earnings data released Nov. 4.

Meanwhile, Century’s nine-month loss widened by 6.7 percent to $30.6 million from a $28.7-million net loss a year earlier despite sales rising 10.3 percent to $1.05 billion.....
