China’s ferrous scrap imports up, other products fall

SINGAPORE — China’s imports of steelmaking raw materials were mixed in October, with ferrous scrap rising month on month while iron ore and coking coal both logged declines, according to customs data released Nov. 21.

The country’s intake of ferrous scrap jumped 12.3 percent month on month to 322,840 tonnes as a nearly 18-percent decline in shipments from largest-supplier Japan was offset by higher volumes received from the United States and Hong Kong,....
