Doubt hovers over size of ‘14 copper surplus: Aurubis

LONDON Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines is one of the factors casting doubt over the size of next years copper surplus, copper producer Aurubis AG said Nov. 26.
"There are ... factors pointing to a shortage on the production side: Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines not only brought tremendous suffering but also caused serious structural damage to the Pasar (Philippine Associated Smelting & Refining Corp.) smelter and the nearby harbor and loading facilities," the Hamburg, Germany-based company said.
"The smelter has a production capacity of about 220,000 tonnes per year and can process 720,000 tonnes per year of concentrates. Both markets are, therefore, affected. Repairs could take quite a long time," it added.....
