NEW YORK — The U.S. steel sheet market remained quiet in the days leading up to Thanksgiving, and service centers were upbeat on steady business activity as some wondered if a new round of price increases was near.

Service centers have attributed the pickup to stronger demand, but the looming question for many was when and how the imminent sale of Essen, Germany-based ThyssenKrupp AG’s Calvert, Ala., facility would affect the market.

"I’m not expecting any price increases until Thyssen is announced," one Midwest service center source said. "The question is whether price increases follow."....
