Plating-grade nickel premiums rise

NEW YORK — Plating-grade nickel spot premiums have risen due to increased demand from the automotive industry, traders said.

AMM’s plating-grade premium rose to a range of 60 to 70 cents per pound Dec. 4 from 50 to 60 cents previously.

Traders noted that an increase in demand for plating-grade material, primarily from the automotive sector, has driven up premiums.

"The auto industry is causing the plating market to produce at higher levels, causing tightness," one trader source said.....
