Metals shipment, order values fall in November

CHICAGO — The value of metals product shipments fell in November vs. the previous month, the most recent U.S. Census Bureau data show.

Primary metal producers’ shipments were valued at nearly $24.5 billion, down 8.3 percent from October. Some of the decline could be attributed to the Thanksgiving holiday, as well as unplanned and maintenance outages.

West Chester, Ohio-based AK Steel Corp. had an unplanned outage at its Middletown, Ohio, blast furnace (amm.com, Dec. 18), for example, and aluminum producers reported weather-related power outages during November (amm.com, Nov. 20). Wire rod manufacturers took planned maintenance downtime starting Thanksgiving week (amm.com, Nov. 13).....
