Storm interrupts some scrap, steel activity

CHICAGO A severe winter storm that stretched from the Plains states to New England and the Eastern seaboard Jan. 2 and 3 has affected some metals operations but most companies escaped unscathed.
An arctic blast is expected to bring subzero temperatures as far as the Mason-Dixon line through the weekend.
Scrap metal recyclers in the Northeast said deliveries had practically ground to a halt with the inclement weather. "All of our operations are open, but no scrap is coming in the doors," a northern Massachusetts source said. A scrap company in southern Massachusetts kept its trucks off the road Jan. 3.....
