W. Coast plate prices up, foreign offers eyed

LOS ANGELES — Domestic commodity plate prices are rising on the West Coast as buyers await the latest offers from the region’s leading offshore sources.

If the most recent round of announced increases—which in the past month have ranged from $20 to $30 per ton ($1 to $1.50 per hundredweight)—takes hold, the delivered price on warehouse grades and sizes from mills east of the Rockies could reach $43.50 to $45 per cwt ($870 to $900 per ton), depending on the size of the buyer and local market, according to market estimates.....
