Barrick Gold’s Zaldivar declares force majeure

NEW YORK — Barrick Gold Corp.’s Zaldivar division has declared force majeure on copper shipments from the Antofagasta international terminal as a result of a port strike in Chile.

The company confirmed Jan. 10 that an indefinite labor dispute was impeding the loading of copper cathodes at the terminal.

As a result, it declared force majeure on shipments of copper cathodes produced at Zaldivar, located in northern Chile about 1,175 kilometers (730 miles) southeast of the port city of Antofagasta.....
