Hot-rolled prices ease; cold-rolled strengthens

NEW YORK — U.S. Midwest hot-rolled steel sheet prices slipped this past week for the first time since mid-September on the back of shortened lead times and weaker order books, sources said, although cold-rolled prices edged up on tighter demand.

Reaction to the slight decline in hot-rolled pricing was mixed among buy- and sell-side sources, with some citing a momentary weakness in the spot market on a slow start in business coupled with some mills showing weak order books because they lost out on some contracts. ....
