IMC clears first step to build Wis. DRI facility

NEW YORK — Local officials in Wisconsin have approved a cooperation agreement that pushes forward plans by International Metallics Corp. (IMC) to construct a direct-reduced iron (DRI) plant.

The approval by the Douglas County Board of Supervisors of the agreement with the Redevelopment Authority of the City of Superior is seen as a first step in the transfer of the Parkland Industrial site, a location that was chosen based on its proximity to suppliers of iron ore pellets and natural gas, as well as the logistics infrastructure in the region, Reston, Va.-based IMC said in a statement.....
